Hannah was diagnosed with Down syndrome at birth. It was diagnosed early in the pregnancy that she had duodenal atresia, which most people with duodenal atresia also have Down syndrome, and required surgery at 1 day old. Late in the pregnancy it was discovered that she had an AV canal defect and at birth it was diagnosed to be a complete AV canal defect that would require surgery at around 6 months. Hannah was very sick and ended up having open heart surgery at 10 weeks old though everything is great with her heart now. Like most children with Down syndrome, she has low tone in her mouth and has poor coordination with her tongue to try to suck, requiring a g tube for feeding.
